I lived in Atlanta for 30 years & I love the outdoors. Here are my favorite spots locally & within two and half hours.

Beautiful lake to sit by or walk their trail down to the old mill. Just outside of Atlanta, going i-20 west.
Sweetwater Creek State Park, Lithia Springs
If you are not into an unpaved trail, this is perfect for you. Nature, but smooth & paved. It's in Cobb County, not too far outside of the perimeter.
Silver Comet Trail
Beautiful mountains & peaceful lake. It's about 35 mins. Outside of Atlanta, and worth the drive.
Allatoona Lake
Right in town on the Southside. Beautiful hiking trails & you may find the Spiritual community gathering to commune there too.
Cascade Springs Nature Preserve
Such a beautiful falls. I love this place.
Amicalola Falls State Park & Lodge - Dawsonville, GA
I love hiking and camping here in there cabins.
F.D. Roosevelt State Park | Department Of Natural Resources Division
You can see NC. TN. and GA from some of these peaks. It's 2.5 hours away, so I usually rent a cabin there.
Black Rock Mountain State Park | Department Of Natural Resources Division
It's a lake beach. Cabins, swimming, hiking, make a day of it. Family time.
Fort Yargo State Park
Nice peaceful place to hike. They have great cabins, and we loved the mini-golf too.
Hard Labor Creek State Park
I love this place. Many great memories & walks here. I especially love it in the winter. So much more to see.
Cochran Shoals Trail
Great place to hike. My retreat group loved it. Beautiful bridge & rustic nature.
Tumbling Waters Trail
It's beautiful. Narrow, a bit difficult. Not too bad though. Great little hiking trail.

Lost Falls Trailhead
Beautiful all times of the year. One of the first places I hiked, It's a strenuous. It's not an easy hike.
