While I usually don't recommend buying from big box stores as a beginner, they are a great place to get plants inexpensively. Just be cautious about rot and bugs.
Calathea (Lowe's)
This is one of my personal favorites because of the colors of the leaves. Calathea can be a bit picky: they need humidity and regular watering.

I love syngonium! The arrowhead shaped leaves are pretty cool, and similarly to pothos you can take cuttings that grow into a new plant.
