Shanghai is filled with history yet it's also incredibly modern. These are my favorite places to go when visiting Shanghai.

My favorite place to walk along the waterfront. The best view overlooking Shanghai's skyscrapers. Check out a rooftop for panoramic views, and come back at night to see the city light up.
The Bund

This street is so lively. You'll find street food, restaurants, and shops all along Nanjing road. Walk down it and reach the Bund at the end.

Unique temple in the middle of the city. The surrounding area is also nice to walk around with a park nearby and live music. The metro stop for Jing'an is also filled with food and connected to a Japanese grocery store.

This is a newer area in Shanghai. You'll find modern buildings mixed with restored historic buildings. The streets are filled with food stalls, and at the end you'll find the Shanghai Starbucks Reserve.
Zhangyuan

Newer area that's a bit more expensive. Lots of shopping malls and restaurants. You'll find unique architecture style here as it was part of the old French concession.
