Black Austin Tours on Instagram: "“Voyage to Soulsville” painted by John Fisher. This mural is found on the wall of the George Washington Carver Library in East Austin. . . What does this mural mean to you? After observing it many times, I believe this to be one of best murals in the city. More so, I believe there are so many messages in this painting. . . The depiction of Mahala Murchison, the woman top and center holding a book with 1839 on it, is the most powerful. Do you know Mahala’s story? . , #visitaustin #trueaustin #Blacktravel #AustinTexas #Austin #ATX #Juneteenth #supportblackbusiness #austintravel"

One of the gems of Austin's East Side is The Rhapsody Mural. This bright mosaic is by UT Art professor John Yancey. Yancy's goal was to illustrate the rich culture of East Austin that has long been a part of the community.
